Swindon Advertiser’s Alfie the alligator is joining in a national Family Arts Festival.

Alfie will be heading down the hill to the Wyvern Theatre in the town centre to meet his pals Daisy the Cow from this year’s panto and Mr Potato from Peppa Pig at a free family fun day on Saturday, November 2 from 10am to 1pm.

Alfie will be joining the little ones in the foyer for some face painting, cupcake decorating and a colouring competition. There is also a chance to take part in an illustration workshop led by Horrible Science illustrator Tony De Saulles.

Derek Aldridge, theatre director, said: “ We’re passionate about encouraging local families to visit the theatre and introducing them to our comfortable, family-friendly environment, so pop in.’’ Another special guest joining in the fun day will be the Gruffalo who is appearing at the Wyvern in his own show in April. The producers of his show, KW & NB Ltd, said: “We’re delighted the Gruffalo is involved with the fun day at the Wyvern where he always receives a warm welcome.’’ Spilling out into the street there is a live music bandstand organised by Holmes Music and InSwindon. The line-up includes Elliott James, Joshua Heather, Abby Ella Smith, Emily Jane, Charlie Anne and Rhys Samuel Bury. “It’s great to use the bandstand for what it should be used for, we have a great array of talent on offer,’’ said Alan Holmes.

There will also be a story-time at Swindon Central Library with Jack, Jill and Daisy the Cow from this year’s Jack And The Beanstalk panto starting at 11am.

Swindon Dance complete the quartet of art, music, drama and dance in the arts festival with their own open day in the Town Hall Studios offering free taster dance classes.
