A WOMAN has been arrested in connection with a stabbing outside Tesco in Ocotal Way on Saturday evening.

Police officers and paramedics responded to the incident shortly before 10pm.

They found a 44-year-old man lying seriously injured on the ground after being attacked with a knife.

He had wounds to his chest and arm and was rushed to hospital by ambulance where he remains in a stable condition. He is continuing to receive treatment.

A significant police presence remained outside the store for some time as detectives from Wiltshire Police's CID worked with forensics experts at the scene.

Their investigation saw an early breakthrough with the arrest of a woman in connection with the incident - she has been released on bail.

Officers believe they also know the identity of at least one other individual involved in the stabbing and a search for him has been launched.

Detective Sergeant Scott Anger, of Swindon CID, is appealing for any witnesses who have not yet come forward, to make contact with officers.

He said: “This was a really nasty incident – the victim sustained a serious injury but it could have been much worse. It is fortunate that the injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

“I would like to thank the members of the public and Tesco staff who assisted in providing first aid to the victim and remained at the scene to provide vital information to officers following the incident.

“This information led us to arrest a 31-year-old woman on suspicion of aiding and abetting grievous bodily harm.

"She was taken to Gablecross custody and has since been released under investigation while our enquiries continue.

"A man is also being sought in relation to this incident and I would appeal to any further witnesses to the incident, who have not yet provided information to contact detectives via 101.

"Alternatively, you could provide information anonymously to Crimestoppers via 0800 555 111.”
