A WOMAN is in a critical condition in hospital this morning after being knocked down by a car last night.

The victim, who was on foot at the time, was walking by when two cars were involved in a crash.

As a result of the crash, one of the cars then careered into the woman.

Her husband, who was with her at the time, was also hurt.

The woman, who has not been named, was airlifted to the major trauma centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol where she is still being treated.

The incident happened in Spine Road East in Ashton Keynes, at the junction of Wickwater Lane and Broadway Lane

A spokesman for Gloucestershire Police said: "Officers are appealing for witnesses following a serious RTC in Ashton Keynes last night.

"Just before 7pm, two cars collided on the Spine Road East at the junction of Wickwater Lane and Broadway Lane. One of the cars involved then hit a female pedestrian.

"Roads in the area were closed whilst emergency services responded. The woman was airlifted to Southmead Hospital where she remains in a critical condition. Her husband, who was with her, also suffered some injuries."

There may have been other pedestrians and motorists in the area at the time of the incidents and officers are keen to hear from those people.
