JUDGES were in town on Tuesday (July 10) as the South West In Bloom competition judging day gave volunteers the chance to show off their green fingers.

Judges Su Maddocks and Martin Abrahams were shown around the town, which scooped a prestigious Gold award last year in the horticultural competition.

Now the team of volunteers and town council members have a nervous wait to find out if they can continue their winning streak.

Steve Pascall, chairman said: "Thank you to all the volunteers who have made the town look so brilliant this year again, specifically the shopkeepers and Marlborough Town Council who have done a wonderful job.

"We received a generous donation of £2000 from Tesco, and have had more kind donations again from Tony Archer of Superior Plants.

"I saw a manager of a shop sweeping the area outside their shop today, which made me think what a great mentality everyone has, the judges have gone but they are still making sure it looks nice."
