A MARLBOROUGH martial arts club is raising money for a defibrillator to provide lifesaving support during emergencies at sports events.

Gracie Barra Marlborough, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school which is based in Elcot Park, fundraising to help Marlborough Youth Football Club get a defibrillator.

Instructor Kevin Palmer is holding a seminar to teach jiu-jitsu and self-defence techniques to local schoolchildren, with all the proceeds going to the town’s youth football team’s appeal.

Mr Palmer said: “The seminar will be a way that the martial arts school can give back to our community, help support children and adults to participate in sporting and fitness activities and to promote a healthier lifestyle.

“I believe jiu-jitsu is something for the community that can help everyone.”

Each school that takes part will be asked to donate £10, along with donations from members of the public taking part. The school teaches children and adults of all ages and abilities, so everyone is welcome.
