ANOTHER child has suffered burns to her hands and knees whilst playing in a park.

Tara Shergold was watching her daughter Amilee slide toy cars down the skate ramp at Penleigh Park in Westbury when her hands touched the surface and instantly blistered. She also grazed her knees, suffering deep friction burns.

It happened only days after the Times reported a similar scenario in Melksham.

The 29-year-old said: “As soon as her hands came off the surface, they were instantly blistered.

“We took her to the hospital and she was bandaged up. It will take a while for the injuries to recover. It is her birthday this Sunday and now we have had to postpone her birthday trip to Peppa Pig World. She is very upset.”

Aimlee Shergold, who turns three this Sunday, said: “I miss playing with my friends.”

A similar incident occurred last week in Melksham when two children were rushed to hospital with burns from the heat of the rubber surface in King George playing fields.

Ms Shergold, of Tarpon Walk, Westbury, added that it was lucky she had been there to help her daughter.

She said: “Many children play with friends after school or without adult supervision through the school holidays. On a hot day children could be susceptible to serious injury with no adult there to help them.

“There needs to be cover over the skatepark or a sign that tells children to be cautious of heat from the surface.”

Westbury town council said: “Our play areas are inspected weekly and it is difficult to plan for such unprecedented weather. We advise children to stay away in periods of extreme heat.”
