A FATHER is furious as he is still without water and waiting for his landlords to carry out repairs days after his shower burst into flames.

Michael Edwards, of Eden Vale Road, Westbury, and his son Joe were in the house on Monday when an electrical fault caused the fire in the shower unit.

The pair have been left without proper washing facilities, and believe the smell left by the fire is making their home unlivable in.

Mr Edwards, who suffers from epilepsy and his son, who has type one diabetes, have had numerous issues with the shower during the eight years they have lived there, but say nothing has been done to solve the problems.

He said: “It set on fire at about 10am and we had to rush outside to call the fire brigade. After they had put it out someone came from Selwood Housing. He did nothing except put the cap back on to cover the damage from sight.

“They won’t fix it unless I send in a complaint. . Before this the shower used to turn on in the middle of the night and it took ages to get it fixed. My son is only 10. What would have happened if I had popped out and the fire had started then.

Selwood Housing Group said: “A Silcoa operative arrived at the property in accordance with our four-hour emergency call-out policy.

“They ensured that all electrics and water to the shower had been isolated for safety and that the casing was re-attached. It was important the operative left the shower in ‘in-situ’ so the manufacturer can carry out an investigation.

“Following this incident, our Silcoa responsive repairs spoke with Mr Edwards about resolving this issue.”
