LOVING Vincent, a film about the genius painter Vincent van Gogh, will be screened at the Swindon Arts Centre on Wednesday at 7.45pm.
In a story depicted in oil-painted animation, a young man comes to the last hometown of painter Vincent van Gogh to deliver the troubled artist’s final letter and ends up investigating his final days there.
Loving Vincent is the world’s first fully painted film. At first it was shot with actors and then literally painted over, frame by frame. The film-makers painted over 65,000 frames on over 1,000 canvases.
This proved a laborious and time-consuming process - it took four years to develop the technique, and more than two years, with a team of over 100 painters working at studios in the Polish cities of Gdansk and Wroclaw, and a studio in Athens, to complete the film. They believed you could not truly tell Vincent’s story without his paintings, so needed to bring his paintings to life
