Show compassion

I note that the bible thumping Jeff Adams is once again showing his disdain for those who took part in the pro-refugee rally held in Swindon recently (Not our problem, 24 August).

It’s a known fact that Jesus was a refugee, would Mr Adams have shown such disdain for him as he does all those fleeing war, poverty and persecution? Quite frankly Mr Adams, I don’t care how they (refugees) get to the UK or how many countries they pass through to get here.

Your comments on the NHS coping well, all the public services were coping reasonably well until 2010 when the Conservatives and Lib Dems formed a government and unleashed austerity which has decimated public services.

Instead of continually berating refugees and the many thousands who spend time and money helping them why don’t you vent your anger at those in the church who have systematically sexually abused children, of whom many have never recovered and in some cases have seen those who have been abused take their own lives. If the Pope, the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Archbishop of York amongst many other church leaders can hold out a hand of love, compassion and friendship to refugees, why can’t you Mr Adams?

Help ourselves

For centuries this country has put aside, by decree of Westminster, millions of pounds to give to third world countries and it has not changed them one bit. I say the citizens of this nation should get together and say enough is enough. Give the money to this country for the NHS, poor families and let these so called third world countries start telling their own leaders to take care of their own citizens.

Who in this nation’s history decreed we have to give our coin of the realm and send it overseas year after year? Were we chosen by some divine power we have to give millions and save them? I guarantee in 100 years from now, if you switch on your TV, some tragic nations will still be in the same mess. Still good old England will keep the aid flowing out and to hell with our own people. What a joke! India is one example. They can afford a space program, still they will plead mass poverty as always.

Be careful who you let run this land. We could end up a third world country. Who will come to our aid?

Such kind people

I would like to thank the very kind people who helped me on Monday August 27 when I fell at the bottom of Beechcroft Road. The young lady from Lower Stratton in the white car generously drove me to my friend’s flat at Laurel Court and saw me safely inside. The two young decorators delivered my walker to the same address in the back of their van.

Kindness is still freely given by strangers and it was much appreciated. Thank you.
