Autumn misery

I dread the autumn, as I live where there are a lot of trees that line the avenue. These were planted when the houses were built. They are forest trees! I love them in the summer, but when autumn arrives I have ALL the leaves blown into my garden, ankle deep and sometimes if it is very windy up to my windowsill.

I spoke to MP Robert Buckland about my problem and he told me to get in touch with the council and they would remove them for me.

We had a prospective Conservative candidate call at my home canvassing for votes. I said to him about my leaf problem and his reply was that the leaves became my leaves when they are blown into my garden! My answer was I will sweep them out into the road. He then said, I could be fined for littering. I asked if my neighbour’s child’s ball came over the fence, when playing in the garden did it then become mine? There was no reply.

I have to pay someone each year to clear the council’s leaves... oh no, my leaves. I used to do it myself but being in my mid-seventies and not in good health I feel that I could do with some help from the council.

If like Mr Jinks with his green bin at the cost of £48 per year, I wonder if I had a green bin would they take their leaves?

I shall be in touch with the parish council very soon and I will let you know the outcome.

It worked this time

A few weeks ago I wrote a letter criticising the Swindon Half Marathon as it was last year.

As I said in my second letter I will go out and support the runners after church. This I did and spoke to several runners after they finished the run and also to some of the stewards.

I will admit that this year’s run seemed to be much better, the stewards were better informed and the competitors all seemed to have had a good time. The traffic jams in the town centre did not happen and apart from one minor thing I would say that overall it was a success.

I have not changed my mind about last year’s run but by all means carry on if this year’s race was anything to go by. Well done to the organisers and runners.

Good news for young

It is now the official policy of the Bank of England that houses will be cheaper after we leave the EU.

This is excellent news for the young generation and anyone who rents property.

Rents are tied to house prices so if house prices fall then everyone who rents their homes will gain financially.

The biggest problem facing the young generation is finding a home to rent or buy at an affordable price.

This latest forecast of cheaper housing by the Bank of England is very good news for the young generation.
