Making a mess of it

So Swindon council are now threatening to stop collecting household rubbish if there are too many recyclables mixed in with general waste.

Firstly I’d like to ask how they are going to enforce this? If you’re presented with a wheelie bin full of rubbish how do you know what’s in it unless you completely empty it and check the contents?

If you have the time and energy to check each and every bin individually then you’re clearly doing the job wrong.

Secondly, the amount of rubbish the collectors leave all over the streets and roads is so disgusting that they themselves should be fined for littering. I don’t recall Britain being such a filth hole before the recycling Nazis took over.

The councils have us trapped, they introduce more and more ridiculous rules regarding waste disposal whilst forgetting that we pay ridiculous amounts of council tax to cover the costs. Just shut up, collect our bins like you’re paid to do and stop making us feel like criminals for throwing stuff away.

Be a compost buddy

Janet Woodham complains of street tree leaves blowing into her front garden. The best thing to do with them, of course, is to compost them, but it’s not always possible. One may be disinclined to or be unable to for health reasons. If Janet puts all her (or the councils) leaves in bags I will collect them to compost on my allotment.

I would urge all fit people with gardens to start compost heaps. If they have neighbours who can’t for whatever reason, compost their garden waste as well - it is called compost buddy.

I would urge Janet not to complain too much about trees to the council as councils all over the country are cutting down street trees, quite literally by the thousand, to save money. In fact they are even doing so in parks.

Our island comes first

This Brexit fiasco is running on and on just like the American Dynasty soap. This island of ours is what is important to all parties, not the continent.

We have survived for centuries on our own so I just wish these doom and gloom merchants would face the facts that the democratic decision was made by the people for the people.

The absurd comments by the London mayor Khan about a second referendum is beyond belief. To try to reverse our way is traitorous.

We may as well burn the Domesday book and go back to the feudal system.

Thanks for donations

On behalf of the Wyvern Foundation I would like to say a huge thank you to all patrons who contributed to our bucket collection after the five performances of Oliver!.

The Wyvern Foundation was formed 10 years ago by Sian Hart at the Wyvern Theatre. Each year the foundation provides bursaries to participants of the Wyvern Theatre summer youth project.

This year the fantastic amount of £1,344.73 was raised which is a wonderful amount towards our fund raising.

The shows these young performers do is brilliant, they learn everything in 10 days before they perform. We have such talented young people here and I am so proud to be part of the committee that believes in them. They give us all they can give with a fantastic show every time.

God bless you all and once again thank you so much, and thank you Swindon. Also well done to all the young people who showed us what Swindon has to offer

June Weller, Treasurer, Wyvern Foundation, Eldene, Swindon

Free Joe Robinson

A British ex-soldier has been given a seven year prison sentence by Turkey for fighting ISIS. ISIS were one is the most cruel regimes in the world. They were eventually defeated by a coalition of western forces.

It seems that Turkey did not approve. They have given Joe Robinson a seven year prison sentence for helping the Kurds to defeat ISIS.
