Swindon Borough Council has appealed to the public for their help in coming up with names for its recycling lorries.

And true to the tradition which saw Boaty McBoatface win the public vote for a polar research vessel (which was in the end named after David Attenborough) the Swindon public have responded with a blizzard of puns.)

Obviously there's a Binny McBinface and a Trashy McTrashface, thank you Steve Hopkins and Lee Thomas, but some have gone a little bit further with the gags.

Janet Cue came up with Dustbin Timberlake and Bincent Van Gogh, while Lisa Clews on Facebook had a similar idea with Bin Diesel (ah, we see what you did, there Lisa) and the Prince of Bales.

Paul Owens eschew puns and wanted to name the lorries after prominent environmentalists calling them the Attenborough Flyer, Packham Flyer, Kingdom Flyer and Craven Flyer.

A couple of mums used the fact their children are fans of the bright yellow wagons.

Carrie Sopp wrote: "My son is autistic and loves the recycling wagons. He calls them Sunshine because they are yellow and bring colour to a dark day" and Victoria Westlake wrote: "My little boy has always called them The Big Yellow."

One suggestion we like particularly like so far was posted on Twitter by @TimelordGemini who suggested Dustbin Tombinson. It's got everything - a bin reference and is very local to Swindon.

And for political balance another could be named after the Conservative MP's likely Labour opponent at the next election as Kate Binnegar.

The only trouble is they'd have to stick to routes in North Swindon.
