IT was sore ankles all round for a team of eight denim-clad fundraisers who walked three-legged from Staverton to Bradford on Avon at the weekend.

The stunt along the Kennet & Avon Canal towpath raised more than £540 for Alzheimer’s Support’s day club in Warminster.

Everyone taking part wore denim as part of the Trowbridge charity’s Denim4Dementia fundraising campaign.

The walk was organised by Lou Gover, manager at Old Silk Works day club in Beech Avenue, Warminster.

She said: “It was a long three and a half miles and definitely harder than it looks. We all have sore ankles now.

“But it went really well and there was a great atmosphere on the canal with people cheering us on and clapping when we finally got there.”

Afterwards, the team relaxed with a fry-up in the Lock Inn.

The Wiltshire charity is asking everyone to don the denim in October for a month of mufti-days and fundraising events.
