IT was a double celebration for Ashley and James Wilsey, of The Three Tuns, Great Bedwyn, as they were awarded Best Local Restaurant in the South West in the Good Food Guide 2019 on their sixth anniversary of managing the pub.

Restaurants from across the region competed for the winning spot and the winners were told about their victory on September 6.

Mrs Wilsey said: “I couldn’t believe we won the same day as our anniversary.

“We knew that to be recognised by Waitrose Good Food Guide was an achievement in itself but to find out we had won was wonderful.”

The pub, which takes great pride in its food, was nominated by locals and regular customers.

The pub will receive a certificates and a trophy to show off to their diners.

The couple planned to celebrate their pub-ownership anniversary with a barbecue over the weekend for everybody to celebrate with them.

Mrs Wilsey added: “It went really well. We have tested the waters before with smaller events but never a celebration like this. We wanted to do the event after the church fete.

“So much has happened in those six years, it has completely flown by.

“We have had our challenges, but it feels like we opened only yesterday. We’re very lucky to have our core team.”

Waitrose & Partners Good Food Guide for 2019 was prepared from moer than 1,000 reviews, going on to decide the winners from each region.
