GUEST judge and ex-Matravers School pupil Wade Merritt will perform at a Young Musician of the Year event next week.

Matravers School and the Westbury Lions have joined forces for another high-profile final on Thursday.

After a busy round of auditions, 14 finalists have been selected to play in the event, showcasing a wide variety of musical talents.

These will range from solo drumming to rock bands to the school orchestra, the choir and vocal duets and trios.

A school spokesman said: “This year we have seen a sharp rise in the number of ensembles entering and so this event will seem even busier than usual, as the numbers of performers have literally tripled.”

This year’s judges will include local performer and former Matravers pupil Wade Merritt.

Mr Merritt will help to decide the winners of the various categories, as well as performing in the special guest slot after the interval and before the awards presentations.

It certainly promises to be a wonderfully musical and entertaining evening for all the family.

Young Musician of the Year 2018 will take place on October 18 at 6.30pm in Matravers’ Theatre.

Tickets are priced at £2 and are available from the Matravers Box Office on 01373 824283.
