TOWNS and villages around Wiltshire will be holding special services to commemorate the fallen of the First World War on or around November 11.

On November 10 St Nicholas Church, Chippenham will hold a service called peace and prayer from 4pm.

Bremhill Parish Council is holding a service of dedication in memory of those who died at East Tytherton village green at 3pm on November 11. It will include a roll call of names, the unveiling of a commemorative stone and the planting of a tree.

In Devizes on November 11 a concert called For King And Country will be held at 3pm in the Corn Exchange. It will feature a children's choir, actors from the Wharf theatre, St John's Church choir and singer George Wilding.

In Great Cheverell, near Devizes, the village is holding a number of fundraising events for the Royal British Legion including making donations at the Bell Inn to buy a Tommy a pint.

Villagers researching the background of those from the area who died during World War One have also uncovered graffiti dating back to 1916 which they think was left by two Canadian servicemen who were stationed nearby.
