CCTV footage in Old Town is being examined in a bid to sold the mystery of dumped sacks of clinical waste that appeared in Prospect Place.

Swindon Borough Council has appealed for information about the incident where intravenous drip bags, wipes and tubing were found inside nine bags on Saturday.

Also in one of the bags was a bottle of whisky and a juice carton.

A council spokesman told the Advertiser: “This is an unusual case and it would be fair to say that these fly-tipping incidents have left our street cleaning team slightly puzzled.

“We would like to help whoever is leaving these bags here so they dispose of their waste safely and correctly, which can be done free of charge through the council.

He added: “We are examining what CCTV we have in the Old Town area to see if this provides any clues, but we would like to appeal to Advertiser readers to get in touch if they have information regarding where this waste is coming from.

Anyone with information can contact us on CustomerServices@swindon.gov.uk where this information can be passed directly to our waste services team.”

Eight bags were first reported by parish councillor Toby Robson, who had just been for a walk around Old Town with his children.

They were collected, but the following day another one had appeared in exactly the same place. The council's highways team responded again.

Both sets of waste were taken to their depot while the authority investigates the incident.
