ORGANISERS of Melksham’s first ever Gin Festival have hailed the event as a huge success and say it is likely to be repeated.

More than 200 people attended two sessions at Melksham Town Football Club’s infiLED Stadium at Oakfields on Saturday (Oct 20).

The club’s commercial manager Darren Perrin was delighted with the turnout and said they are likely to stage another.

“It has gone viral. It has been massive. We have been staggered by the response and the demand. It has been a huge success,” he said.

Thirty gins were on offer to up to 60 enthusiasts during the afternoon session, with entertainment from magician Darren Leaney.

The evening session attracted more than 150 people and included a disco and a selection of fusion foods from different countries.

The festival was arranged by the Peculiar Gin Company based in Calne, which also organises gin-sampling trips on canal cruise boats and vintage buses.
