AS Nick Jones and his team of climbers come to the end of their Everest challenge, having reached 17,000ft, his family have spoken about how proud they are of him and his determination.

Despite being apprehensive considering his health, Mr Jones’ family have supported him from the start and have enjoyed receiving regular updates on his progress from the team.

His wife Melanie said: “We have managed to stay in contact with Nick throughout the trek, and he welcomed our words of encouragement at the times he needed them most along the way.

“Our family highlight was watching Nick reach his goal by live video call, it showed us the raw emotion and relief.”

His children, Cameron, 16, and Lara, 14, are his inspiration for the foundation he has started to help bereaved youngsters.

Mrs Jones added: “Nick is proud beyond words of his children, although they both found it very emotional saying goodbye, they knew that this trek would potentially help other children through the charity their dad has founded, and have shown strength and positivity throughout.

“Cameron would like to follow in his dad’s footsteps and conquer this challenge when he is older, although he understands the enormity of it now he’s heard it first hand. Lara considers her dad inspirational and crazy, and would like to attempt a similar challenge.”
