INSPECTORS will investigate the council’s work to support young people who have special educational needs or disabilities next week.
Ahead of their joint inspection, quangos Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission have asked parents and carers to share their experiences of the service provided by Swindon Borough Council.
In a notice to carers about the inspection, they wrote: “During this inspection, the inspectors will collect information about children and young people in the area.
“They will be looking at local area records, speaking to area officers and leaders at educational settings, and speaking to children, young people and parents or carers.”
Ofsted and the CQC will run an online seminar, called a webinar, for parents and carers to ask questions of the inspectors and share their views of the council’s special educational needs service.
The webinar will run until next Tuesday. People can also email: Lasend.support@ofsted.gov.uk.
The latest inspection into the council service follows a damning probe by Ofsted into the borough’s children’s services, published in May.
Inspectors found there were significant weaknesses in the services, warning decisions made by social workers and managers were not quick enough.
Last month, new borough chief executive Susie Kemp said demand on the children's services had never been higher. "If Ofsted came in today and did a full inspection of the department, we know they would identify several areas which require improvement," she added.
