A YOUNG man is recovering in hospital after he suffered serious injuries in Calne on Monday evening, following an incident in which he received what are believed to be knife wounds.

The victim, who has not been named, remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as police urged the public to come forward with any information they have.

Joseph Beau Browne, 18, of Braemor Road, Calne, has since been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He was also charged with possession of a class B drug.

Browne was remanded in custody and was due to appear at Swindon Magistrates Court yesterday (Wednesday).

Three men were initially arrested after police were called to the car park of the Bremhill View Social Club, Calne, shortly after 6.45pm on Monday.

The 21-year-old man was found there, suffering what were described by police as serious injuries, and was taken to Southmead Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

A short while later, police said they had arrested an 18-year-old on suspicion of attempted murder. Police enquiries continued throughout the night and two further men, aged 19 and 20, from Royal Wootton Bassett, were also arrested, on suspicion of attempted murder by joint enterprise.

They have now been released on conditional bail while enquiries continue.

Inspector Mark Luffman, from Wiltshire North Community Policing Team, said: “I know the community in Calne will be understandably concerned and anxious about last night’s events, but I hope they will be reassured by the quick progress in our investigation and the fact that three people have already been arrested. This was an isolated incident involving a group of people who are all known to each other.

“There will be an increased police presence in Calne over the coming days as officers and detectives carry out their enquiries, and I hope that will provide some reassurance to the local community.

“I want to urge anyone who has information which could help our investigation to come forward and speak to police about what they know.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and quote log number 279/Nov 12 or crime reference number 54180107424.
