ROYAL Wootton Bassett branch of the Royal British Legion was invited to provide a Guard of Honour at the end of REME's 100k run from Arborfield to their base at Lyneham. Monies raised from this excellent charity event benefited the REME charity and the legion.

The runners were congratulated by branch president Bryan Kingscote, chairman Tom Blundell, standard bearer Gary Kendall, Barbara Blundell and the Poppy Appeal organiser Wayne Lawton.

The legion annual general meeting, at the Conservative Club, welcomed reports on branch activities over the past year.

Thanks were expressed to the retiring committee, whose officers were re-elected with the exception of Maurice Baker (membership) and Gary Kendall (Garden of Remembrance) who both retired from these posts.

Elections: president Bryan Kingscote; chairman Tom Blundell; vice-chairman Gary Kendall; treasurer Anne Bevis; secretary Peter Eslick; Garden of Remembrance Sue Hughes; entertainments Brian Bevis; standard bearer Richard Hignett, committee members - Maurice Baker and Wayne Lawton.

The posts of membership secretary and welfare are currently vacant.

The chairman announced that BBC Wiltshire Radio planned to conduct interviews at the Remembrance Day parade.

Richard Collins reported that during the past year the branch has raised £16,184.04 for the Poppy Appeal.
