A WIDER public consultation is underway to decide on the fate of the Forever poppy in Royal Wootton Bassett.
The 4.5 tonne white marble sculpture, a commemoration to the 355 fallen service personnel who were repatriated through Royal Wootton Bassett, collapsed unexpectedly in October 2017.
At a public meeting in September residents of the town voted unanimously to reconstruct the poppy and secure it within a frame.
The council has now issued letters to other residents to ask them if they agree to the council spending up to £60,000 on the new frame.
"With public finances under so much pressure, the councillors are keen to hear the public views, not only this suggestion but any others that you may have," a town council statement said.
"If the Town Council underwrites £60,000, this represents an extra £15 for a council tax band "D" house," it added.
