Police are appealing for witnesses and trying to trace a Good Samaritan after a 13-year-old girl was assaulted in Trowbridge.
The incident happened at 2pm on Friday November 2 when the victim was walking over the footbridge over the River Biss, close to the Tesco car park, in County Way.
She was assaulted by two teenage girls and another woman who is believed to have been in her early 20s.
A man who was passing by intervened and stopped the assault from continuing.
PC Tim Marshall, from Wiltshire West Community Policing Team, said: “This was a nasty assault on an innocent girl, where she was punched and kicked, leaving her with visible injuries.
“She has also been left traumatised by what happened to her and fearful to go out.
“We want to speak to anyone with information, including people who were in the area at the time and may have seen the assault happen.
“We particularly want to speak to the man who intervened as he may have vital details about the suspects.”
Anyone with information should call PC Marshall on 101, quoting crime reference 54180104124. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
