SCOUTS, cubs, guides and brownies practised their songs and tried on their costumes ahead of next month’s Gang Show performance.

Now in its 42nd year, the Gang Show brings together youngsters from across Swindon and North Wiltshire to perform a series of sketches, dances and songs on the Wyvern Theatre stage.

Ian Selwood, who took part in the shows as a cub in the 1980s, returns as this year’s producer.

He said: “For the kids it’s a learning experience. They make friends, they develop their self-esteem.”

It is the fourth Gang Show for Sydney Miller, 15, from Woodhall Park. She said: “It’s an amazing experience to take part in a show at the Wyvern. It’s something we wouldn’t get the opportunity to do otherwise. I’ve met some really amazing friends through it.”

Charlotte Hooker, 13, from Rodbourne Cheney, added: “It’s about having the opportunity to perform on the big stage, because you don’t really get that now if you’re not in a performing arts academy. It’s nice because you’re on stage with all your friends.”

This year’s show, A Million Dreams, runs from November 29 to Saturday, December 1, at 7.30pm and 2.30pm on Saturday. Tickets are £13 or £11 for concessions. Call 01793 524481 or visit: www.swindontheatres.co.uk.
