AIR Cadets marched with a specially-made RAF Centenary Token at Supermarine Sports Ground.

The group were watched by members of the public and senior RAF officers.

The sports ground formed part of the land on which Spitfires, and other aircraft including the world speed record breaking Swift, were built.

The token is one of three batons which are each symbolic of different aspects of the birth of the RAF.

Swindon's RAF Association Chairman Andy Ormston will take it to Birmingham this weekend and parading it into the arena for the 30th International Tattoo.

He said: "This is an amazing honour and I am proud to do this on behalf of all those who have served in the RAF and on behalf of Swindon."

Shirley Ludford, manager of Swindon 105.5, was guest of honour at the Supermarine celebration.

She said: "It was a special moment to walk behind the Token in the parade and to see it make its second visit to Swindon in this highly symbolic year."
