A PENSIONER who left a wallet full of cash in a taxi says he has had his faith in humanity restored after the driver returned it all to him.

Michael Bailey, 66, from Swindon, took out his month's pension and had more than £400 in his wallet when it fell out his pocket into the taxi on his way back from the Queenstown Club.

After fearing for the worst he got a pleasant surprise when the driver from the night before called round and dropped the wallet off, with every single penny still inside.

He told the Adver: “It’s absolutely brilliant I can’t believe it, in this present climate and at this time of year, it’s amazing.

“He was smiling when he gave it to me. I made him take 20 pounds. I just wanted to say thank you.

“Everything was there nothing was touched.Sometimes you can’t really trust people, but you can now.”

Driver Michael Ololade, who has been a driver for more than 20 years in Swindon but lives in Cirencester, said: "I was just doing my job. Lots of people leave there things in the back at the end of the day.

"He was happy and I'm happy that he got his money back."

Taxi firms in Swindon are well known for their charitable efforts. Cross Street Cars will donate gifts and books to GWH this Christmas and spend time with dementia patients at Abbey House Care home.
