THE Marlborough Youth Choir took top honours at the Devizes Eisteddfod last month when they took part in the arts contest.

Competing in Devizes the choir won their own class, and went on to be awarded the coveted Wiltshire Choir of the Year trophy 2018.

The choir director and founder, Max More said that he was delighted with the result and remarked on how hard the singers had worked to achieve their deserved success.

He said that it was all the more impressive, given that the choir has only been together for six months.

The 2018 Festival Concert was held on Saturday, December 1, in the Devizes Town Hall Assembly Room.

The Wiltshire Young Musician Competition was won by Matthew Powell, who played the 1st movement of the Hummel Trumpet Concerto.

Second was Madeleine Longbotham (flute) and third was Eliza Munday (violin).

The next Devizes Eisteddfod will be next autumn with the dance section running from November 16-117, and the music, speech and drama sections taking place from November 21-23, 2019.

Enthused by their success at the Devizes Eisteddfod the Marlborough Youth Choir will next appear at a major Christmas concert with Swindon Male Voice Choir and the Wroughton Silver Band.

The concert is on Friday, December 21, at Christ Church, Swindon.
