A 34-YEAR-old woman from the Warminster area died following a two-car crash on the A36 near Chapmanslade yesterday.

The woman sustained serious injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene while the other driver was airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol by air ambulance.

The smash just after 1pm involved a black Porsche and a grey Peugeot 2006 and happened at Black Dog Hill between Beckington and Chapmanslade.

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service said they were called out to the accident just after 1pm.

He added: “There were two reported casualties and we sent multiple resources to the scene. A male patient was conveyed by air ambulance to Southmead Hospital.”

All three emergency services attended the collision, which closed the A36 between the junction with the A361 at Beckington and the A3098 at Chapmanslade for up to 12 hours.

Drivers were advised to find an alternative route as the road remained closed throughout yesterday afternoon.

Wiltshire Police said: "We are currently dealing with a serious road traffic collision on the A36 at Black Dog Hill near Warminster.

“The road is closed in both directions at this time and we would like to ask motorists to avoid the area and find alternative routes."
