A PROFESSIONAL skateboarder who was dedicated years to bringing skate events to Wiltshire has been recognised for his services to young people and presented with an MBE in the New Year Honours list.

James Threlfall who grew up in Melksham and now lives in Devizes worked with Wiltshire Council and other organisations to refurbish the Melksham Fifth Skate Park.

Mr Threlfall also runs the Wiltshire Skate Series events, getting young people involved in skating and spending time at their local skate parks.

He said: “This award was so unexpected, I didn’t even know I was nominated so when it came through in the post it was rather nice.

“I found out in early November and have told a few close family members but we have had to keep it under wraps. It has been a hard secret to keep.

“It’ll be nice to finally be able to tell everyone and celebrate.

“I want this to be a team award as it’s not just me who does this work, it is very much a team effort and I want the whole team to be able to celebrate together.”

Other winners from Wiltshire include inventor Adrian Bowyer from Chippenham, Francis Wakem from Devizes for services to victims of crime, Alan Coggins from Devizes for services to the community and volunteer Adrienne Howell from Mere for services to the community.
