WESTBURY Railway Station is due to re-open for normal scheduled services at 4am this morning (Friday) (January 4) following upgrading and improvement works.
The works to lay new track at Westbury North Junction closed the line between Trowbridge and Warminster and disrupted services over Christmas and the New Year.
Emily Maiden, of Network Rail, said: “The work at Westbury has gone well – the new track at Westbury North Junction is now in place and signal moves have been completed.
“We have also been working on modifying the platforms to make it easier and safer for passengers to get on and off the trains.
“Final snagging and testing work is being carried out on Wednesday and Thursday and we are on course to finish at 4am on January 4 for train services to resume that morning.”
Network Rail says the upgrades and improvements will make the track much more reliable.
She added: “Follow up work will take place over the coming months, including the extensions of platforms 2 and 3 to accommodate GWR’s fleet of Intercity Express trains.
“We’d like to thank all our lineside neighbours and passengers for their patience while we’ve carried out the work, which will improve the reliability and performance of the railway through Westbury.”
The engineering works were part of £25 million of improvements being carried out by Network Rail over the festive season.
Some were ongoing electrification work taking place elsewhere on the Great Western network.
