POLICE officers could be set to offer drop-in meetings for members of the public in The Laverton, in Westbury.

Although the town has a police station, councillors said that meeting in a community place like The Laverton could encourage more people to come forward and speak to local officers.

Vice chair of Westbury Town Council, cllr Mike Sutton said: “I think it would be good for the police to have a regular time to meet people and know there will be an officer available to speak to. It would be useful for intelligence.”

PC Lee Pelling said: “It would be great to take you up on this offer and I do encourage PCSOs to do this.

“People used to go to the police station but I think if a space in the community could be made available, if they could come here for example at a set time once or twice a month. We will look at developing that.”

Crime levels in Westbury dropped in December. During the town meeting PC Pelling confirmed that crime levels in Westbury had dropped over the December period, despite increases in October and November compared to 2017.
