A CATALOGUE of errors uncovered by a damning report of the IMH-backed Moredon Medical Centre may just been the tip of the iceberg, warns local Labour Party representatives.

The Care Quality Commission rated the North Swindon surgery inadequate, citing several breaches of basic regulations ensuring safe patient care and treatment.

Integrated Medical Holdings, which has taken over five GP surgeries including Moredon, has faced heavy criticism and seen patients protesting in the streets since it introduced a new call-handling system in September.

Kate Linnegar, the Labour candidate for North Swindon, called for a wider inspection of all the surgeries within the partnership, including the central administration hub overseeing the five surgeries which wasn’t covered by watchdog’s report.

“The reaction from patients is that they are very disappointed the performance of the hub wasn’t investigated,” she said. “What they’ve uncovered is only the tip of the iceberg.”

Patients have faced hour-long queues on the phone just to book appointments and are currently being told they have to wait up to four weeks for a non-emergency appointment with a GP.

“We are really very concerned that someone will get very ill or lose their life because they can’t get through to see a doctor,” she added.

“We really feel that the CCG should remove IMH. They have a responsibility to make sure services are proper.

“We are still seeing massive problems for people, and obviously early intervention is better than treatment somewhere down the line.”

Justin Tomlinson, MP for North Swindon, sought to distinguish the report from the problems relating to IMH's administration of the surgeries.

"The CQC report was on the GP surgery, not the IMH admin centre, and it said GP services needed to be improved. They are two separate issues," he said.

"As a fellow local residents it's always disappointing to see reports such as this.

"I will continue my urgent discussions with the surgery and I do recognise they have put a number of measures in place to make significant improvements and we will continue to support anything that can increase GP capacity and outcomes for patients."
