A COMMUNITY champion at West Swindon's Asda has helped several good causes around town raise money at the supermarket.

Candice Pridden has been with the store for five years and is keen to support local charities and projects.

The Green Token Giving scheme lets customers vote for their favourite causes, which then receive funding from the Asda Foundation.

It's helped the Wiltshire Bobby Van, Headways Swindon and District, Asthma Relief and Breaking Free.

Candice said: "I helped care for my terminally ill sister and played a big part in setting up a charity called Stacie's Wheels. We raised £15,000 to buy three off road wheelchairs for disabled people to use. Developing this from the initial idea to organising fundraising was really exciting and enjoyable, so when the community role came up at Asda I couldn't wait to see what it had in store.

"I love the fact I get to meet new people every day. I get to learn about them, hear their stories and how they help people in the Swindon community. I love being a part of the great things going on in our community, and letting people know about the help that myself, the store and the Asda Foundation can provide.

"It's so varied – at Christmas we helped a counselling service with funding for their Christmas party, and during the school holidays the Asda Foundation's 'healthy holidays' grant helped Wroughton Parish Church provide arts and crafts for the children to use. We also funded a social event for Swindon Champions disability sporting group.

"We have ongoing causes too – the local foodbank has a permanent collection point in the store for everyone to donate items to.

"If you’re part of a local group and think I may be able to help you, please get in touch." Call 01793 872781 or email community_westswindon@asda.co.uk
