THE family of a 15-year-old boy are distraught after a video of him being beaten up at his Warminster school was posted on social media. They are now calling for teachers to crack down on bullying.

Kingdown School Year 10 pupil Marshall Miller was repeatedly punched and thrown to the ground by another pupil. Other teens filmed the attack on their mobile phones, and a video posted on Facebook and other social media sites has been seen more than 30,000 times.

Although physically unharmed, Marshall and his family were deeply distressed and have been in contact with the police and are pleading for the school to crack down on bullying before someone else is seriously hurt at the Woodcock Road school.

The family have been told the boy responsible for the assault has been excluded for two days and those who posted the video on social media have been internally excluded for two days and had their mobile phones confiscated.

The attack happened as Marshall was moving between lessons, and afterwards he had to go and find a teacher to get help, as staff were all in classrooms waiting for pupils to arrive.

Marshall’s dad, Anthony Miller, said: “Marshall has had a lot of ongoing issues at Kingdown. Three years ago he had a chair thrown at him, which left him with a scar by his eye.

“My daughter, Maddison who is only 11 has also been a victim of bullying. she is called names everyday and has been kicked in the back and stomach several times. We are mentally disturbed as a family from the assault, we haven’t really been able to come to terms with it. My partner Lorna can’t bear to watch the video.

“I cant believe how many views the video has had on social media. I am trying to turn it into a positive by thinking at least the school is being exposed for what it allows to happen.

“There were no teachers around for the whole incident, Marshall had to go and find a teacher afterwards. The deputy headteacher told me the nearest teacher was in a classroom.

“Marshall was shaken up and upset and at first just wanted to know why this had happened.

“Now he is scared to go back to school and we aren’t sure if we want him to go back there. He is hitting all his targets and is getting on so well so it would be so unfair to move him, but the school has proven it can’t keep him safe, let alone any other children.

“We all just want a stop to be put to this before someone gets seriously hurt at that school.

“The students don’t take the No Bullying policy seriously, they don’t think it is a big deal. They need to be taught about it and punished appropriately.

“The punishment for the pupil who attacked Marshall seems very soft for what he did.”

Headteacher Dave Locke told the Wiltshire Time he was “unable to comment on internal matters which involve students”. However a statement issued to parents said staff are “shocked and saddened by the actions displayed on the video”, and that as a school they “absolutely do not tolerate behaviour of this kind”.

The statement goes on to reassure parents that “the perpetrator of these actions, and those around who encouraged the actions displayed on the video, are being sanctioned robustly in accordance with the school’s behaviour code” and that Kingdown School remains a “safe, happy learning environment for all students”.

The school’s anti-bullying policy says: “We will train all staff to identify bullying and follow school policy and procedures on bullying, actively create safe spaces for vulnerable children and young people, maintain a bullying log with fortnightly follow up with key staff and take appropriate measures in order to sanction students involved in incidents of bullying.”

A police spokesman said: “We received a report that a 15-year-old boy had been assaulted by another boy at Kingdown on January 9.

“We have been in contact and will work with the school to obtain any CCTV footage of the incident.

“Horizon, our victim and witness care service, has been in touch with the victim to provide any additional support. Enquiries remain ongoing.”
