MEMBERS of St John's Church choir in Devizes hit all the right notes when they were invited to lead a service at one of the world's best known cathedrals.

The 40-strong choir were at St Paul's in London for a second time after impressing on their first visit two years ago.

Director of music Chris Totney said he was delighted to receive the invitation to return and lead the Evensong service.

He said: "It was an honour to be invited back to the cathedral and the music we had to sing was even more challenging than last time. The choir certainly rose to the occasion, performing complex pieces by British composers Philip Moore, Herbert Howells and James MacMillan, and we received some lovely comments from the staff afterwards.”

The building, designed by Sir Christopher Wren in 1673, invites choirs from all over the world to sing services when its own choir is on holiday.

A spokesperson for the cathedral said, “In the past year, we have been glad to welcome a number of visiting choirs to St Paul’s, with some coming from as far afield as the Netherlands, Canada, Hong Kong and the USA.”
