A TOP chef from Little Bedwyn was delighted to raise £20,000 to help sick children when he offered an exclusive lot as an item in a charity auction.

Roger Jones, 58, who runs the Michelin-starred The Harrow restaurant, will now host the meal for 45 people with a champagne reception in the village.

16 chefs from across the country cooked at Voco St David's in Cardiff Bay to raise over £150,000 for Tŷ Hafan, a paediatric palliative charity giving care to children who are unlikely to reach adulthood due to illness and support for their families.

"The Chef’s Night Out has 160 people sitting down to dine and each chef has a table. The diners don’t know who their chef will be. At the end each chef gives up an auction lot, such as cooking at home or in a restaurant," Mr Jones explained. "We went for the marquee here so to raise a lot of money, which all goes to Tŷ Hafan.

“They get a champagne six course meal,” he said, “in a marquee in our grounds along with fine wines. Every penny goes to the charity. I’ve supported the charity because our two children were fine and healthy and grown up, but other families are not so fortunate and know their children will not grow up and have a life."
