A AXE-WIELDING man who tried to rob an angler in a night-time attack has been warned he is facing jail.
Dale Stagg pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and theft of a mobile phone when he appeared before a judge at Swindon Crown Court.
The 38-year-old also admitted possessing an offensive weapon at Rushylane in Bradford Leigh in the early hours of January 5.
Stagg, of The Lye, Seend, pleaded guilty to the three offences when he appeared in court by video link on Friday (feb 8).
Asking for a pre-sentence report Nick Fridd, defending, said "He has not done anything like this before. His previous is mainly driving matters."
Judge Robert Pawson adjourned the case to March 14 and remanded Stagg in custody until then.
He said "Please don't think that the fact I am ordering a pre-sentence report means that the sentence will be anything but custody. It is a really serious matter."
