A 23-year-old man from Royal Wootton Bassett has been arrested in Trowbridge on suspicion of multiple driving offences after a police pursuit this morning.
He was taken into custody at Melksham Police Station on suspicion of theft of a vehicle, driving without insurance, driving while disqualified and failing to stop for police.
Police said: "We attempted to stop a vehicle in Canal Road shortly before 11am today as it was suspected of being driven without insurance.
"The driver failed to stop for police and a pursuit was authorised.
"Officers followed the car through the town, and it came to a stop in Wesley Road, colliding with a member of the public’s vehicle.
"The driver then fled the scene on foot and was chased by officers, who arrested him in Stallard Street."
