YOUNG musicians from a Cricklade got the chance to be part of an orchestra.

Year 5 and 6 pupils from St. Sampson’s C of E Primary school joined 11 other schools from Wiltshire and Gloucestershire at an Orchestral Day at Rendcomb College. Led by the college's music department, around 60 musicians playing 10 different instruments spent the day learning three pieces of music which they performed in a finale concert in front of parents and staff.

Headteacher Jennifer Bayne, said: “Thank you for the experience you offered our pupils, they had a super time and it was a great experience for them.”

The pupils joined Rendcomb College Junior and Senior School pupils to form an orchestra in the Griffin Theatre. The sessions were led by the college's director of music Dr Tom Edwards and specialist music teachers. They played Grieg’s In the Hall of the Mountain King, Bernstein’s Mambo and the theme to Mission Impossible.

Dr Tom Edwards said: “The day was a great a success and was a wonderful occasion. It was striking to see a 60-piece orchestra made up of such young and talented players. It was a great pleasure to see so many young players taking such an obvious delight in the experience.”
