Children in Purton enjoyed learning about site safety with a session of arts and crafts and goodie bags.

The community event organised by GreenSquare near its development site at Dogridge had children and parents hear a talk from the company with mascot Ivor Goodsite as part of the Considerate Constructors scheme.

Mum Leaha Preston who lives in Dogridge, brought her three girls, Kaicee-lei, Carlee-rose and Skyla-rei along to the session. She said: “The information the children got was straight to the point and easy for them to understand. The children in this area all play together so it's really good for them to be educated by others. My children now talk about how to be careful when walking past the site. They enjoyed decorating money boxes and making pictures on the bus.”

Sue Matthews, community involvement officer at GreenSquare said: “The session was delivered by Tim Bircher, our technical project manager, he spoke to the children about the potential dangers of building sites, the different construction activities to be aware of and how to stay safe.

“It was a fun afternoon, we gave the children goody bags and afterwards they were able to enjoy snacks and lots of arts and crafts activities, organised by children’s centre staff from the Rise Trust.

“It was great to have the Big Blue Bus as our venue for the afternoon, we have used it for community activities before and it certainly attracts attention.”

The Big Blue Bus is owned by the Open Blue Trust, which uses the converted double-decker blue bus as a mobile community centre to deliver opportunities to isolated communities in north Wiltshire.

GreenSquare’s in-house development arm, GreenSquare Homes, is currently building eight flats at the Dogridge site, a mixture of one and two-beds, and two bungalows which have already been built.
