MARLBOROUGH'S race horse welfare and education charity Greatwood is set for fundraising day at Newbury racecourse.

The event on Saturday, March 2, is sponsored by the building company Bloor Homes and will feature a series of races aimed at raising cash for the charity.

More than 300 people are expected to attend the day in support of the charity based at Rainscombe Hill Farm in Clench Common, Greatwood.

The charity provides a home for former race horses which are used to educate disadvantaged children and young adults with special educational needs.

Sasha Thorbek of Greatwood said: “We have been holding our annual charity race day for more than a decade now and it has become firmly established as a hugely popular event with racegoers.

“It costs us more than £500,000 every year to carry out our work, so the money we raise from this event is absolutely vital in enabling us to support former race horses and children and young adults with special educational needs."
