A SOLDIER died in Swindon just a week into a training course at MOD Lyneham, a coroners’ court heard.
Lance Corporal Karl Parker, 23, died on October 14 last year while studying the at the Defence Academy of Mechanical Engineering.
At a pre-inquest review hearing yesterday, Nicholas Rheinberg, Assistant Coroner for Wiltshire and Swindon, told British Army lawyers he wanted Mr Parker’s officer and a captain who had conducted a recent medical review board to appear before the full inquest.
The purpose of that inquest will be to determine how, when and where Mr Parker died.
A date for the inquest was provisionally set for June 17 and 18.
Thanking Det Insp Angela Shipp of Wiltshire Police and MOD representatives Chris Trevett and Lt Col Campbell for appearing before him, Mr Rheinberg described Mr Parker’s death as a tragic case. He added: “From what I can see, a young man with a very promising career in the army.”
