A MAN was arrested yesterday morning following a short pursuit which resulted in a collision with a police car.

Officers were carrying out patrols in the Railway Village following reports relating to drug dealing and anti-social behaviour in the area.

At around 2.50am, officers witnessed a suspicious vehicle in Sheppard Street which headed in the direction of the train station.

Officers followed the vehicle and signalled for it to pull over but the vehicle failed to stop and a short pursuit ensued.

The vehicle was seen to travel through a red light onto Corporation Street before travelling the wrong way up a one way street and then colliding with a police vehicle.

One man was seen to run from the vehicle, while two people were located inside.

Searches were carried out inside the vehicle and several wraps of suspected heroin were located.

A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs. He was taken to Gablecross custody for questioning and has since been released under investigation while further enquiries are carried out.

Sgt Dave Tippetts said: “Enquiries are ongoing to locate a man seen running from the vehicle and we would urge anyone who may have CCTV footage in the Corporation Street area to get in touch as you may have footage which could help with our investigation.

“Community intelligence is crucial to the work we do to tackle drugs in our county and this is another example of the important role the public can play in helping to act as our eyes and ears.”
