Thousands of plastic ducks will set sail on Swindon waters for a spectacular race.

All are welcome for the Rotary Club of Swindon Old Town’s event on May 27.

Proceeds of the event – sponsored by Nationwide and Arkell’s – will go to charities in Swindon, including CALM, Willows counselling service, Big Breakfast and others.

President of the Rotary Club of Swindon Old Town Roy Parkinson said: “Last year, over 14,000 plastic took to the water and we hope to do better this year.

“We are raising money and we will be making donations to charities who helped us promote the event. We will spread the money depending on the number of tickets they sell.

“Last year’s race was very successful. If we get a decent weather this year, we expect at least 3,000 people.

“In 18 years, we have seen that the race got bigger and bigger each year. There will be music, funfair, tea facilities, burgers, and many more.

“It became part of the Swindon calendar and from now to the race we will sell ducks all over the town.

“There’s nothing like the Swindon’s race – you won’t find any other place doing the same with 15,000 ducks.”

Through the day, there will be three races on the river opposite The Runner pub in Rushey Platt. The drakes race for businesses is at 2.30pm, followed by the school race at 3pm and the main race at 3.30pm.
