AN AUTISM awareness day for organisations and individuals will be at the council offices next month.

The Avon and Wilts Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust is hosting the training at the borough council's offices on Euclid Street.

It will cover the differences in communication and social interaction people on the autistic spectrum experience and get attendees to consider the ways company's and organisations can change to make the environment more welcoming.

A recent report for the council's health and wellbeing board for Swindon Borough council identified that need for staff in public facing roles to be given more autism training.

It currently has a self-assessment improvement plan to ensure those that need it find it easier to access support and adults on frontline services can get more training.

The Autism Spectrum Conditions awareness training will be from 9.30am -12.30 on Monday 29 April in room CR3 on Euclid Street.

The training course costs £45 per person, though people who have been diagnosed with autism by the Swindon Autism Team's service can go for free along with their families and unwaged supporters.
