EIGHT members of the Melksham RFC’s girls team have played a team from Devizes at Twickenham.

The girls drew 3-3 in an eight-minute touch rugby match in front of 60,152 spectators at the stadium in London.

The game took place at half-time during Saturday’s derby clash between Bristol Bears and Bath, which Bath won 26-19.

Team coach Indi Little said the girls were far from over-awed by the occasion or the large crowd.

“The girls weren’t nervous at all. They were all smiles and coped brilliantly. I am so proud of them.”

The Melksham team included one girl aged 11, five girls aged 13 and two aged 14.

The touch rugby game was organised by the Bath Rugby Foundation, which offers coaching sessions to local clubs.

The girls team trains on Sunday mornings at Melksham RFC and is looking for new players. To take part, call Indi Little on 07788 667353.
