IN this week’s selection of images from the Adver in years gone by, we go back 56 years to a time when the Sixties were only just beginning to swing.
It was a different world, one in which smoking was still widely regarded as glamorous and adverts for cigarettes were still legal - and packed with images of sophisticated, enigmatic people.
Our photographers’ diaries took them to stories ranging from a the arrival of a new Red Cross ambulance to the departure of a large contingent of Swindon Town fans for a match in Peterborough.
We also pictured a prince at the controls of a Vickers hovercraft.
