MUM Wendy Oakey is desperate to repay Great Ormond Street Hospital for the care it gives her eight-year-old son who suffers from chronic nasal problems.

Harley, who is a pupil at St Mary’’s School, Marlborough, spends a lot of time at the famous London Hospital and has undergone numerous operations to try and improve the passages inside his nose.

His latest operation was carried out just after Christmas and he is due to go into hospital again in a few months time.

Miss Oakley, of Homefields, Marlborough, who also has a son Leo, seven, is now to hold a fundraising event to give something back to the hospital.

She is to hold a tombola, raffle and jumble sale at Marlborough Bowls Club on May 18 from 10am to noon.

She said: “I have had a lot of support from businesses in the town and further afield who have given prizes for the raffle and tombola.

“I hope to have prizes from some big companies for days out and for restaurants.

“I am also collecting things for the sale and I hope a lot of people will turn out on the day to help us raise money.

“I don’t want to set a target on how much I will raise as I don’t want to be disappointed but the way I look at it is that every little helps the amazing job that they do.”

Miss Oakey, who is being supported by her partner Robert, said that all the staff on the wards are very kind and make Harley’s stay as much fun as they can.

She said: “We are very lucky that he is being treated at such a wonderful hospital and we just want to do our little bit to repay them.”

She said that Harley often has problems with his breathing, snores very loudly and always has a runny nose.

A hospital spokesman said: “Every day, 618 children and young people from across the UK arrive at GOSH. Every day, doctors and nurses battle the most complex illnesses, and the brightest minds come together to achieve pioneering medical breakthroughs.”
