WAVES of yellow ducks raced their way past crowds of spectators in Wroughton yesterday.

The annual Wroughton Duck Race returned to Devizes Road and the Ellendune Community Centre for its 22nd year.

Children, adults and local businesses competed in multiple stages to see their duck crowned a winner in the races from Fairwater House to Weir Field Bridge.

Dad Andrew Rowe, from Broad Hinton, came down with the family for his first duck race.

"It was very exciting, it was quite a tense race, and a very friendly atmosphere."

Arati Nepal brought her four-year-old daughter Alisha down for the day.

"My daughter especially enjoyed it," she said, "she got to see a lot of people and played with the other children.

"Other than this there are not many festivals in Wroughton so we don't get to see all the people together much."

In the children's Abigail Taylor-Silk Race, the winner was Lewis Rowlatt, followed in close second and third by Dexter Road and Joshua Maynard.

The best dressed duck was Iron Horse and the fastest was the fledgling from the team at the café Cowpuccino.

The winner of the Mike Smith Memorial Cup, in honor of the race's original founder, was Lesley Nott, followed by Mr Dudley, and Mr Waiting, with Celia Nichols in fourth.

All the proceeds go toward children's youth organisations and initiatives in the village.
